Cecilia Shutt serves as the 6th Grade and 7th Grade Bass Clef Vocal Music Director at Timberline Middle School in the south-feeder of the Waukee Community School District. In this role, she works to instill in her students not only the musical know-how, but the passion and skills to be life-long musicians. She directs the 6th Grade Choir, the 7th Grade Bass Clef Choir, directs the 7th grade show choir "En Fuego", instructs group voice lessons, and co-directs OPUS auditions for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students alongside Mr. Fakler.
Cecilia holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Luther College, and is certified to teach K-12 music, band, and choir.
Prior to teaching at Waukee, Cecilia taught K-12 vocal music at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Schools in Reinbeck, IA for eight years. While at Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Cecilia fostered a love of music in students of all ages. She directed the annual high school musical that attracted students who participated across all activities. Their productions participated in the IHSMTA program and students attended various workshops and learning opportunities including the culminating Showcase performance. She also brought students to various Honor Choirs and Festivals in the state as well.
She is excited to transition to the middle school world and work with the wonderful students, staff, and community in Waukee.
As a choir director, she obviously enjoys singing and listening to all kinds of music. She also keeps busy by crafting (mostly crochet), reading and her new favorite hobby - obsessing over sports teams. She enjoys the outdoors and traveling to new places. She comes from an education family and in fact, her entire immediate family (mom, dad, brother, herself) will be working with middle school students this coming school year.
