Mark Fakler serves as the 8th Grade Vocal Music Director at Timberline School in the south-feeder of the Waukee Community School District. In this role, he works to instill in his students not only the musical know-how, but the passion and skills to be life-long musicians. He directs all 8th grade choirs, directs the 8th grade show choir "En Fuego", instructs group voice lessons, and co-directs OPUS auditions for 8th and 9th grade students alongside Ms. Sullivan.
Mark holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Wartburg College, and is certified to teach K-12 music, band, and choir. He is looking forward to beginning his Masters in the Summer of 2025.
Prior to teaching at Waukee, Mark taught 6-8 vocal music at Hoover Middle School in Waterloo, IA from 2019-2020 and 5-12 vocal music at Grundy Center Secondary Schools from 2020-2024. While at Grundy Center, Mark built a dynamic and successful 2A program that rivaled schools from around the state. Under his direction the Jazz Choir received multiple Division I ratings and competed at the State Championships, the concert choir received its first Division I rating in over a decade and went on to receive a perfect score the following year, the school record for students accepted to perform at All State was broken, and more.
He is excited to begin his first year as a Warrior and work with the wonderful students, staff, and community in Waukee.
When not performing or teaching, you may catch him exploring the great outdoors with his wife (who is an excellent biographer) and dog, jamming on his ukulele, cooking, or reading books like The Lord of the Rings.
